Canada moves up to seventh in CONCACAF ranking

Canada has moved up to seventh amongst CONCACAF nations on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. Canada played two Men’s International Friendly matches on the recent FIFA International Dates, posting an 0:1 loss to South America’s Peru on 4 September and a 2:1 victory over North America’s Honduras on 7 September. Canada gained 73 points and jumped 13 places on the world ranking (two places within CONCACAF).

​The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year. Matches played more than a year ago are valued 50% of matches played in the last year (matches played more than two years ago are valued at 30% while matches played more than three years ago are valued at 20%).

​Within CONCACAF, only Panama gained more points than Canada in the recent ranking. Panama gained 173 points and jumped 27 spots on the world ranking. Panama jumped into fifth on the CONCACAF ranking. The CONCACAF top-seven features USA, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica and Canada.

​Amongst the world’s top-10 nations, there were two switches: Germany slipped ahead of Brazil and England moved ahead of Uruguay. The new top-10 features five European nations, three South American nations, and one African nation. The order is Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, England, Uruguay, Portugal, Egypt and Chile.
