Canada’s men’s national team is still the fourth-ranked nation amongst CONCACAF countries in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings released today. The top-seven CONCACAF countries did not switch places within the confederation, although each made small moves up or down in the world rankings.

Within the CONCACAF top-10, Jamaica moved up to 8th place while Trinidad & Tobago moved down to 10th. Guatemala cracked the top-10 and sits in 9th place. Mexico (1), the United States (2) and Honduras (3) are still the top-three ranked CONCACAF nations.

Canada played one international match in January – a 1:0 win over Martinique. As Martinique is not a FIFA member association, the Canadian win did not count towards their points. As such, Canada dropped from 576 to 557 points and from 56th to 58th place in the world rankings.

The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year.

Canada’s men’s national team is currently preparing for the 2010 World Cup South Africa Qualifiers. Their first qualifying match is 15 June in Saint Vincent & the Grenadines.
