Canada holds onto eighth spot on CONCACAF list

There was little change on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking as Canada held the 8th spot on the CONCACAF list. In fact, there wasn’t a single change to the world’s top-39 spots, including CONCACAF’s top three countries USA (15), Mexico (25) and Honduras (39). Canada remains 89th on the world ranking.

​The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year.

​Outside the CONCACAF top-10, Grenada was again the big mover with 20 points gained. Grenada moved within one point of 10th place El Salvador amongst CONCACAF nations.

​Canada’s next improvement on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings will come in June after it begins preparations for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Canada already has Cyprus on the table for a 31 May international friendly match in Europe. The 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup runs 3-26 July across 13 cities in the United States. Canada plays Jamaica on 3 July, El Salvador on 7 July and Costa Rica on 10 July.
