Canada held its position despite not playing any games this past month. Canada did, as expected, lose 22 points in the rankings, falling from 397 to 375 points. In all, Canada has lost 35 points on the table since its official elimination for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers last November.

The CONCACAF top-10 remains unchanged since the February ranking, with USA and Mexico holding the top-two positions. USA climbed 38 points this past month, in large part thanks to its 2:0 victory over Mexico in 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers.

In the overall FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings, Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Italy are the top-four ranked countries. Europe currently holds eight of the top-10 positions and 14 of the top-20 positions. Amongst top-20 teams, USA tied Argentina for the biggest jump last month at 38 points. USA is ranked 17th in the world, Mexico is ranked 23rd while Canada is ranked 94th.

The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year.

Canada’s next improvement on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings will come in June after it begins preparations for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Canada already has Cyprus on the table for a 31 May international friendly match in Europe. The 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup runs 3-26 July across 13 cities in the United States.

FIFA CONCACAFtCountrytPoints

17 1tUSAt896

23 2tMexicot784

32 3tCosta Ricat725

40 4tHondurast674

51 5tPanamat577

70 6tJamaicat476

75 7tTrinidad & Tobagot441

94 8tCanadat375

99 9tCubat360

106 10tEl Salvadort329

        Paulo Senra
Chief Communications & Content Officer | Chef des communications et du contenu, Canada Soccer

                <use xlink:href="#icon-paper-plane"></use>
            psenra@canadasoccer.com

                <use xlink:href="#icon-mobile"></use>
            (416) 882-7919

",
