OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s men’s national team will play Haiti in their third match at 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup tomorrow. Canada stands in second place in Group A with one win and one loss after two matches. The game will be broadcast at the following times on tape delay: Rogers Sportsnet Pacific at 23.00 PT; Rogers Sportsnet West at 24.00 MT; Rogers Sportsnet Ontario at 23.30 ET ; and Rogers Sportsnet East at 2.00 ET (overnight on 12 June). For those viewers that have all four Rogers Sportsnet digital channels, they can watch the game live on Rogers Sportsnet East and Rogers Sportsnet Pacific at 21.00 ET (18.00 PT).

The only previous head-to-head match between Canada and Haiti in Gold Cup competition was also the most-recent matchup between the two senior sides. Canada defeated Haiti 2:0 on 18 January 2002 on the strength of two Kevin McKenna goals. Canada’s all-time senior record against Haiti is six wins, two draws and one loss.

Coach Stephen Hart has faced Haiti once, albeit at the junior (U-17) level. Canada’s U-17 team defeated Haiti 5:0 on 19 May 2005 in CONCACAF qualifying.

Canada is in second place in Group A with three points, one point behind first-place Guadeloupe, one point ahead of third-place Haiti and two points ahead of last-place Costa Rica. The Guadeloupe-Costa Rica match kicks off at 19.00 ET while the Canada-Haiti match kicks off at 21.00 ET. If the Canadians defeats Haiti, they will advance with six points, regardless of the outcome of the Guadeloupe-Costa Rica match. If Guadeloupe defeats Costa Rica, then Canada needs a win or a draw to advance. If Costa Rica defeats Guadeloupe, then a Canada-Haiti draw (one point each) will put Canada in a three-way tie with Guadeloupe and Costa Rica (all with four points) whereby goal differential will decide which countries advance to the second round.

Goalkeeper Pat Onstad will rejoin the roster on Monday after having played for his club Houston Dynamo on the weekend.

From the tournament’s 16-year history (eight finals), Canada were Gold Cup champions in 2000. The 2007 tournament will feature the biggest prize pool ever after CONCACAF announced that prizes more than doubled for all winners and qualifiers in the 12-team tournament. 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup tickets (single tickets and ticket packages) can be purchased by calling 212.203.0678.
