Canada’s women’s national team will need to wait one more day to get their shot at England. Friday’s Canada-England match-up at the 2010 Cyprus Women’s Cup had to be postponed due to unsafe playing conditions at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia. The pitch was covered in pools of water after a fierce storm ripped through the area bringing with it over 24 hours of steady rain. The match has been re-scheduled for Saturday 27 February at 14.00 local (07.00 ET / 04.00 PT) at the Alpha Sports Complex in Larnaka.

For Canada, the match presents an opportunity to gain a measure of revenge for its loss to England in the 2009 Cyprus Women’s Cup final. The Group 2 contest will be the second of the competition for both sides following opening-match victories on 24 February. Canada won the 2008 Cyprus Women’s Cup on its inaugural visit to the competition.

The day’s other Group 2 match was completed earlier in the day as Switzerland defeated South Africa 3:1. In Group 1 action, Italy beat Scotland 2:0 and the Netherlands drew 1:1 with New Zealand. Canada and England were scheduled to play in the lone evening match of the tournament.

Canada will complete the Group phase against South Africa on Monday 1 March. From the group phase, teams will be seeded one through four and will play against the corresponding teams from the opposite group. The final day of competition is Wednesday 3 March.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting partner is Teck, will be looking to qualify for their fifth straight FIFA Women’s World Cup this fall at the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup. The competition is expected to be played in October or November, with schedule and venue yet to be announced.
