Canada has arrived in Sunrise, FL to begin training for this weekend’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Canada had a dozen players on the first day of camp as the team trained for two hours under coach Dale Mitchell and his staff. More players will arrive in the next few days before all 18 players and staff depart for Honduras on Thursday.
Canada will then have one day of training in Honduras before playing on Saturday 11 October. The match will be televised live on Sportsnet Pacific (18.30 PT) and Sportsnet West (19.30 MT). The Saturday match will be Canada’s fourth of six matches in CONCACAF Stage III of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Qualifiers.
Following the match in Honduras, Canada will return home to play match five of six, the 15 October contest against Mexico at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB. Tickets to the 15 October match are available via Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.ca or 780.451.8000.
Canada is currently in third place in Group 2, trailing leaders Mexico (nine points) and Honduras (six points). Canada (one point) needs a three-point win over Honduras to climb back into the standings before coming home to play Mexico. After the 15 October match, Canada’s last match is 19 November against Jamaica in Kingston, Jamaica.
