Canada adds to roster for Armenia match

Striker Friend called in as 18th player on Canadian roster.

Striker Rob Friend of Eintracht Frankfurt has been called into the Canadian camp in Limassol, Cyprus. Friend has been released by his German club for the upcoming Men’s International Friendly date on 29 February, the first FIFA Date on the 2012 calendar. Canada will face Armenia in the international match this Wednedsay.

Canadian head coach Stephen Hart will now have a full squad of 18 players for the 29 February match. The match kicks off at 19.00 local (12.00 ET / 09.00 PT) and will be broadcast live on Sportsnet (the match will be preceded by a 30-man preview show).

This will mark the start of Friend’s ninth season with the Canadian national team. He has made 32 appearances at the international “A” level. He scored his first goal on 4 September 2006 against Jamaica (head coach Stephen Hart’s first match in charge of the national team) and his second goal on 31 May 2008 against Brazil. The 31-year old striker hails from Kelowna, BC.

The 29 February 2012 match will be the first-ever meeting between Canada and Armenia.
