Cyle Larin became Canada Soccer’s second Men’s National Team player to score 25 international goals when he scored the opening goal against Qatar on Tuesday night in Vienna, Austria. Larin reached the milestone with a header from just outside the six-yard box after a cross from Samuel Adekugbe in the fourth minute of a 2:0 victory.

Larin already holds the record for most international “A” goals, but he is chasing John Catliff’s all-time Men’s National Team record of 26 career goals scored across all international matches (including “A” matches as well as Olympic Games, Pan American Games and other competitions). Just last year, Larin set a Men’s National Team record by scoring 14 goals in a calendar year.

Larin scored his first international goal on 30 March 2015 in a 3:0 away win over Puerto Rico. He beat goalkeeper Matthew Sánchez with a perfect redirection from inside the six-yard box off a Karl W. Ouimette cross.

Still only 27 years old, Larin is a Concacaf champion after helping Canada qualify for the men’s FIFA World Cup for the first time in 36 years. He was Canada’s joint top goalscorer across FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2015-16 (four goals in 10 matches) and Canada’s top goalscorer across FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2021-22 (13 goals in 16 international matches).
