Leon reached the milestone in the 12th minute on a right-footed shot from distance, incidentally her first international “A” goal scored from outside the 18-yard box.

This angle of that Leon goal ??#WeCAN pic.twitter.com/FsDnEfvRPD — CAN Soccer’s WNT (@CANWNT) September 3, 2022

With her goal on 3 September 2022, Leon has one more goal than Canada Soccer Hall of Fame honoured member Andrea Neil, who scored 24 goals from 1990 to 2007. Leon has scored her 25 goals in 87 matches across 10 seasons from 2013 to 2022, including two international goals this year. Just ahead of Leon on Canada’s all-time list are Melissa Tancredi (27), Kara Lang (34), Janine Beckie (35) and Silvana Burtini (38) while Charmaine Hooper (71) and the world’s all-time leader Christine Sinclair (190) are at the top.

Leon scored her first international “A” goal in her debut on 12 January 2013, a right-footed shot against China PR after she intercepted a Han Peng back pass, took five touches advancing against a pair of defenders, and then fired a shot from inside the 18-yard box past goalkeeper Zhang Yue. The goal in the 75th minute stood as the 1:0 winner.

Still only 29 years old, Leon is an Olympic champion and has represented Canada at two FIFA Women’s World Cups. At the club level, she joined Manchester United FC ahead of the 2022-23 FA Super Women’s League season in England.

Adriana Leon’s first goal in 2013

Adriana Leon’s 25 international “A” goals

CANWNT record when Leon scores (17 matches)
15 wins, two draws, no losses

By season:
2013 – three goals
2014 – one goal
2015 – one goal
2017 – three goals
2018 – six goals
2019 – one goal
2020 – four goals
2021 – four goals
2022 (so far) – two goals

By Half:
9 goals First Half
16 goals Second Half

Final touch:
17 right foot
7 left foot
1 header

Distance:
10 goals from inside the 6-yard box
14 more goals from inside the 18-yard box
1 goal from outside the 18-yard box

Most assists:
4 Ashley Lawrence
2 Jordyn Huitema
2 Diana Matheson
2 Nichelle Prince
2 Sophie Schmidt
1 Janine Beckie
1 Julia Grosso
1 Kaylyn Kyle
1 Jayde Riviere
1 Maegan Rosa
1 Desiree Scott
1 Christine Sinclair
1 Shelina Zadorsky
(4 goals scored after a rebound)
(1 goal scored after an interception)

Adriana Leon after scoring her 25th international “A” goal

        Paulo Senra
Chief Communications & Content Officer | Chef des communications et du contenu, Canada Soccer

                <use xlink:href="#icon-paper-plane"></use>
            psenra@canadasoccer.com

                <use xlink:href="#icon-mobile"></use>
            (416) 882-7919

",
