Dominic Maestracci has been elected the new president of the Canadian Soccer Association. Dr. Maestracci was selected by acclamation to a four-year term at the 2008 Annual General Meeting in St. John’s, NL.
\u200bAlso elected at the AGM was new vice-president Rob Newman, director-at-large Francis Millien, and director professional Greg Anderson.
\u200bDr. Maestracci of Québec, a former vice-president, had served as the Chairman of the Board since October 2007. He has served as the chair of the governance committee and has also served on the futsal committee, finance committee, national referee comittee, senior amateur committee, and the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 national organising committee.
\u200bDr. Maestracci is the eighth president from Québec and the first since Terry Quinn in 1998. Other previous presidents from Quebec are Fred Barter (1912), Craig Campbell (1915-1919), Len Peto (1935-1939), Bob Walker (acting president in 1947), Ernest Campbell (1953) and Pat Nolan (1961-1963). Mr. Quinn served as president from 1992 to 1998.
\u200bMr. Newman of Saskatchewan joins Victor Montagliani as one of the Association’s two vice-presidents. Newman, formerly a director-at-large, fills the position vacated by Dr. Maestracci. As part of his portfolio, Newman will serve as chair of the governance committee. Newman will serve a two-year term.
\u200bMr. Millien of Québec is the new director-at-large, replacing the position vacated by Newman. Millien was most recently the Chairman for the Montreal site at the highly-successful FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007. Millien will also serve a two-year term.
\u200bMr. Anderson of the Vancouver Whitecaps in British Columbia is the new director professional, filling the position vacated by Nick Fillipone. Anderson will serve a two-year term.
