Alphonso Davies and Ashley Lawrence nominated for FIFPro World honours

Canadians Alphonso Davies and Ashley Lawrence have been revealed as finalists for the annual FIFPro World 11 squads. Davies is one of eight defenders nominated to the Men’s World Squad while Lawrence is one of seven defenders nominated to the Women’s World Squad.

The FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 squad is comprised of the best 26 men’s players based on their performances during the period 8 August 2021 to 18 December 2022 inclusive. The FIFA FIFPRO Women’s World 11 squad consists of the best 23 women’s players based on their performances during the period 7 August 2021 to 31 July 2022 inclusive.

As voted by players, the FIFA FIFPro Men’s World 11 and Women’s World 11 will be announced on 27 February at The Best FIFA Football Awards. Earlier this year, coach Bev Priestman was named one of six nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach while Jessie Fleming was one of 14 nominees for the The Best FIFA Women’s Player.

Davies was previously named to the FIFA FIFPro Men’s World 11 in 2020 while Lawrence was previously a finalist for the FIFA FIFPro Women’s squad in 2017. Since the FIFA FIFPro Women’s World 11 was introduced in 2015, both Kadeisha Buchanan and Christine Sinclair have been finalists with Buchanan named to the FIFA FIFPro Women’s World 11 in 2015.
