5 Things to Watch during the CANMNT Send-Off Series June FIFA Window

Here are five key storylines to follow as CANMNT prepares for FIFA World Cup 2026™ during the June Send-Off Series.

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team is entering the final stretch ahead of kicking off its participation in FIFA World Cup 2026™ on home soil. With a pair of Send-Off matches against Uzbekistan in Edmonton on 1 June and the Republic of Ireland in Montréal on 5 June, presented by BMO, serving as the final preparation before Canada hosts the world in what will be a defining moment for Canadian soccer.

Here are five key storylines to follow as CANMNT prepares for FIFA World Cup 2026™ during the June Send-Off Series.

1. The Return to “Iceteca” in Edmonton

When CANMNT steps onto the pitch at Commonwealth Stadium against Uzbekistan, it will mark the team’s first match in Edmonton since the iconic FIFA World Cup Qualifiers wins over Costa Rica and Mexico in November 2021.

Those unforgettable nights, complete with freezing temperatures, snowbanks, and a sea of red supporters, became one of the defining moments in modern Canadian soccer history. Fans nicknamed Commonwealth Stadium “Iceteca,” a nod to Mexico’s famed Estadio Azteca.

This time, the conditions will be much warmer, but the atmosphere is expected to be just as electric as Canadian supporters welcome CANMNT back ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™.

2. Canada’s Official FIFA World Cup 2026™ Roster Debuts

With FIFA World Cup 2026™ approaching quickly, these matches represent the first opportunity for fans to see Canada’s final 26-player tournament squad in action. Canada's official FIFA World Cup 2026™ roster will be named Friday 29 May in a primetime television special airing simultaneously on TSN, CTV, Crave, and RDS at 7:00 PM ET / 4:00 PM PT.

3. A Final Send-Off in Montréal

The 5 June match against the Republic of Ireland at Stade Saputo will serve as CANMNT’s final match before the FIFA World Cup 2026™. It will also mark the team’s latest appearance in Montréal, adding extra significance for supporters in the city who have played a key role in backing the Canada’s National Teams through recent windows.

The match gives fans in Montréal an opportunity to see the squad one final time on home soil before Canada begins its FIFA World Cup campaign later in the month. The atmosphere at Stade Saputo is expected to be electric as players and supporters prepare for the world stage.

4. Opponents – Uzbekistan & Republic of Ireland

Canada’s June window features two contrasting opponents in Uzbekistan and the Republic of Ireland, offering different challenges as the team finalizes preparations ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™.

Uzbekistan, currently ranked 50th in the FIFA World Rankings, has qualified for its first ever FIFA World Cup in 2026 and arrives as a well-organized and technically disciplined side that will test Canada’s ability to manage possession and break down structured defensive setups.

The Republic of Ireland, ranked 59th, brings a more physical and direct European style, with an emphasis on intensity, duels, and defensive organization. Together, the two matches provide Canada with a valuable final look at how the group responds to different tactical profiles and game states before the FIFA World Cup begins on 12 June.

5. The Growing Belief Around Canadian Soccer

Perhaps the most notable storyline is the continued momentum surrounding the program itself.

Qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar represented a long-standing ambition for Canadian supporters. That context has shifted significantly, with expectations now focused on competing on home soil and delivering a strong performance.

This increased confidence is reflected across the Canadian soccer landscape, with anticipation building toward the tournament opener .. It also aligns with the launch of Canada Soccer’s Our Game Now campaign, which reflects the current moment in the game and the growing energy heading into FIFA World Cup 2026™.

The June international window will provide one final opportunity for supporters to rally behind the Men’s National Team before Canada welcomes the world for FIFA World Cup 2026™ .

Fans across the country can watch both CANMNT matches live on TSN, OneSoccer, and RDS as Canada competes in the June window™.
