2022 Canadian Championship Final to kickoff tomorrow 26 July at BC Place

Canada Soccer’s 2022 Canadian Championship will be decided Tuesday night at BC Place as Vancouver Whitecaps FC host Toronto FC in the finale of Canada’s Battle of the North. From 13 participating clubs across four different leagues from coast to coast across the country, Canada Soccer’s highest men’s domestic competition will pit the two finalists in a battle for the Voyageurs Cup as well as a spot in the international club competition Concacaf Champions League.

The 26 July Final will kickoff at 19.30 local (22.30 ET / 19.30 PT) and will air live on OneSoccer, available as a linear channel on Telus’s Optik TV (Channel 980) as well as online at OneSoccer.ca, through the OneSoccer app and on the fuboTV Canada platform. Fans will find extended coverage for the Canadian Championship across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CanChamp.

Toronto FC’s road to the final opened with a 2:1 road win against HFX Wanderers FC through Canadian Jordan Perruzza and a Peter Schaale own goal in the quarters. They then beat CF Montréal in the semi-final with a 4:0 win at BMO Field. A brace from Canadian Ayo Akinola secured Toronto the victory.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s road to the final featured a 2:0 win over Winnipeg’s Valour FC, a 5-3 win on kicks from the penalty mark over Calgary’s Cavalry FC, and a 2:1 home win over York United FC through a Brian White brace.

Canada Soccer’s Canadian Championship, also known as the Battle of the North, is the nation’s highest men’s domestic competition featuring clubs from coast to coast across the country, notably professional teams in Major League Soccer and the Canadian Premier League as well as league winners in both League1 Ontario and Québec’s PLSQ (Première ligue de soccer du Québec). Winners of the Canadian Championship lift the Voyageurs Cup and qualify to the annual international competition, Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. Winners of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League then qualify to the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Voyageurs Cup has been awarded to the Canadian Championship winner since 2008. Created by the Voyageurs Canadian Supporters group, the trophy represents Canadian fans’ commitment to the game in our country. At the completion of the competition, the tournament MVP is named as the George Gross Memorial Trophy Award winner. The Young Canadian Player Award is awarded to the best Canadian player in the competition 23 years of age or under.
